Resources for Life Cycle studies

Postby publius » 2009-265 (Wed) 04:02

This thread is for information sources for studying life-cycle issues. Sources freely available on-line are, of course, preferred to those available by subscription on-line or only in print, because it is easier for everyone to study them. Most of these contain a variety of information, only some of which is directed toward our specific purposes.

Lunax, the "Lunar National Agriculture Experiment Corporation" (article at Lunarpedia — links to a variety of useful information)
NASA Space Food factsheet, which makes heroic attempts to represent as satisfactory a diet of packaged food which is put up into containers a month or more ahead of launch
Biospherics home page, including information on the famous Biosphere 2 experiment, which provided a good model of what not to do
History of the NASA/Purdue CELSS research center is not only informative in itself, but includes an in-depth bibliography

LunaGaia, a lunar base study by the International Space University

NASA publications (available from the NASA Technical Reports Server)
SP-413, Space Settlements : A Design Study (report of the 1975 Stanford Summer Study) — also online at the NSS Space Library
SP-428, Space Resources & Space Settlements (1977 Summer Study report) — also online at the NSS Space Library
Lunar Bases & Space Activities of the 21st Century (1984 Conference) — online at the NASA Astrophysics Data System & Lunar & Planetary Institute
CP-3166, The Second Conference on Lunar Bases and Space Activities of the 21st Century (1988 Conference) — online at the NSS Space Library
SP-47, SP-48, SP-117, SP-118 — a study of space cabin atmospheres by Roth, in 4 parts, discussing the biological & engineering factors involved in various choices
